Mining East Africa & Beyond
In May 2013, Raw East Africa (U) was formed as a joint venture between a group of artisan miners, traders, and investors. We have since grown to become one of the largest and most credible precious mineral companies in East and Central Africa.
Our portfolio includes investments in gold and diamond exploration, identification, extraction, purification, sourcing, and procurement for import and export. Our asset portfolio also covers investments in real estate, community hospitals, colleges, and research institutes.
In the last 7 years, we have established our self as an organization that is respected by its partners and peers for resourcefulness, ethics, and integrity. We’ve achieved this by acknowledging that we exist in a greater context. We are here to power better lives today and tomorrow, in East, Central Africa, and beyond.

Meet Munansi, the Meerkat
Our relationship with Meerkats spans so many generations it was only second nature for us to embrace them as our mascots. Legend has it that one of our forefathers in mining was led to the first gold nugget by a gang of meerkats after saving a pup stuck in a flooded burrow near a riverbank.The Meerkat→
We are staunch believers in teamwork, and there are just a few animals on Earth who work as well together as meerkats. They are extremely social animals that live together in burrows, which they dig with their long sharp claws. They are also blessed with such sharp eyesight. The gold coated meerkats of Uganda live together in groups of three up to 50 meerkats.
From petting them as they worked to tales of them helping lost miners find their way through collapsed tunnels or to leading them to better prospects, to killing pit snakes and scorpions, these little fellas have many a time saved a miner’s life.
Fun Fact: It’s a good omen to find meerkat burrows in a new mining tunnel.
